Requirements & pre-requisites
Academic readiness required for TAP Culinary Arts program entry.
Requirements
✓ Proof of:
o Identity – Valid ID or Driver’s License
o High School Diploma/GED OR
o TABE Assessment for Reading & Math (Minimum 6th–8th grade equivalency)
✓ Technology Access: Computer, laptop, or tablet
✓ Physical Readiness: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 25 lbs. or more
✓ Passion: Interest in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Silver Service Ship Cook & Catering Staff, and Seamanship (OS, AB, Jr. Engineer) Pathways
To ensure students are prepared for TAP Culinary Arts, Inc.’s hands-on and credential-based training programs, applicants must meet a basic level of academic readiness in reading and mathematics.
Option 1: High School Diploma or GED
Applicants may provide proof of a high school diploma or GED. If submitted, the TABE assessment is not required.
Option 2: TABE Assessment
Applicants without a diploma or GED must take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and achieve:
- 6th–8th grade reading level
- 6th–8th grade math level
If TABE requirements are not met
TAP provides referrals to adult basic education programs so applicants can improve their skills and re-apply. This supports TAP’s mission of maintaining academic standards while removing barriers to education.
